Orvieto

I park in the parking lot down by the shore. Now it’s 3 floors up with the elevator and then 4 escalators, of those very high ones. 🤭 You’d better not be afraid of heights.😊 But I do get off bang in the centre, oh so nice.

Too bad it's drizzling, but in good spirits it’s umbrella up on to the Cathedral.

What a beauty! It will for sure keep me occupied for a while. Beautiful white-grey stripes inside and out. The ceilings are beautifully painted and the stained glass is mostly in brown tones. I love the brown tinted windows, even better than the coloured ones. Well, I had to sit down in a pew for a moment or two to take it all in.

After half an hour of serene rest, I walk back into town … past many monumental buildings and amazing statues. With of course a quick peek over the city wall. In the end, How high up am I? Ohhhh, quite some way up!

While I am looking over the edge, I feel like having a good lunch. Let's see if Orvieto can satisfy us. Several restaurants are open, but it is raining again and it is cold! So …

… I walk into the first restaurant I see.

I am lucky. A nice place with a friendly curious boss and just as curious guests.😂 This is gonna be a hilarious conversation - half of them only speak Italian, a few a bit of English and two quite okay German.

I pick my lunch with confidence and nowit’s wait and see. A bottle of water is put in front of me … ehhhh … 🤔 I ordered wine after all???? “Yes, I'll bring it with the anti pasti” is the surprised answer. Ha, ha. Fortunately the anti pasti is coming quickly, I'm looking forward to it.

This looks good. I start with a bit of everything but the raw ham, the buffalo mozzarella and the grilled vegetables are my favourite so I spoon up some more.

For the main course, I have penne with artichoke and pancetta and Mathieu/Mateo papperdelle with ragu di cinghiale accompanied by a glass of red wine. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves...

Wow, that little fuel did me good, I'm starting to get warm again.

After lunch we stroll through town a bit more and return to the B&B, as I was expected there at 6 for the aperitivo.

What fun it is to have wine made by father with aperitivo, as well as home smoked ham dried in the house. Plus some nice cheese and nuts. Very tasty.😋

This is a nice way to end the day. 🤗
