Sassi di Matera

During a nice breakfast we studied the map and had a great conversation with an Italian fellow B&B occupant Ahum!!!!!! Italians want to tell you a lot but most of all they want to ask you a lot😊 They just have this one thing, THEY HAVE TO TALK. I am getting used to it, though. 😉

Bit later than planned, but we’re off to the Sassi.

It is a long walk. About 4 km from the B&B to Sassi, through Sassi up and down and back again.

The Sassi, Unesco World Heritage Sites, are very interesting.

It’s easy to understand why they are protected.

The caves in Matera have always been partly inhabited during the centuries, unlike other areas. In one part there are houses, but also an old cave church, shops, B&B and restaurants. It is definitely a must visit. So interesting, so back in time. Especially go and see the water system. We can definitely learn something from it🥹

After the trip, I feel a bit hungry and end up at Sotto Zero for a delicious panzerotto, well filled with mozzarella, tomatoes, ham and rocket.

Still, I go for a walk around Matera outside the Sassi and then it's time for an Aperitivo. Pity MoMAng is still closed but around the corner is a nice bar with a terrace. I settle down on an easy chair and order an Aperol Spritz and a beer for Mateo.
